This project was a library project situated on a site next to the existing St Andrews university library. The criteria for the library was for it to be a small student library with an emphasis on reading. When in use the library should hold around 50 students.
The idea for this project was to sit the building on a north west to south east axis so as to create a natural route through the large site. To enter the building you have to walk under a walkway in the building's roof which will allow shelter for students when the weather is bad. The roof will be part glass part timber so as to allow as much light as possible into the building. On the exterior of the building there is a mezzanine level which acts as a silent study area and the lower level acts as a group study level. The buildings structure would be made from glulam timber which allows the large spans needed for the building itself.
