Clyde Art Project

This project was a thesis project designed to engage with the city. Thesis statement - To create an artistic experience that isn’t regularly seen in Glasgow. To allow Scottish based creators a place to display and engage future generations with their work.

Installation art seemed to be the ideal creative input for this project. Installation Art is designed to create and inspire void of age and gender, the Audience for the performance would include everyone in the hopes that both young and old will be encouraged to create.

The atmosphere that would be created during the performance would be dependent on what the artist wanted to achieve. The rooms would be flexible to accommodate a variety of performance art and installations. Glasgow has always been a creative and expressive city full of culture and vibrancy so creativity naturally originates from it. When the Turner prize was announced in 2014, 3 out of the 4 candidates studied at Glasgow School of Art. The move from an industrial city to a creative city for Glasgow was a natural progression as the spaces the artists can rent are often cheap; materials are readily available and the city’s way of life is fast paced and diverse, ideal for creative minds. 30% of Turner prize winners for the last 30 years have come from Glasgow based art schools. It is important that with all these creative minds inhabiting Glasgow that they have a place to display the work they create at home.
